Description: This session explores the critical role of check payment standards in ensuring efficiency, security, and interoperability within the financial industry. This session will introduce the Accredited Standards Committee X9, the organization responsible for developing technical standards for the U.S. payments system. We will provide an overview of key X9 standards, including X9.100-111 (Check Endorsements), X9.100-140 (Specifications for an Image Replacement Document – IRD), X9.100-160 (Magnetic Ink Printing (MICR)), X9.100-188 (Return Reasons for Check Image Exchange and IRDs), and X9.100-187 (Electronic Exchange of Check and Image Data). Additionally, we will discuss the structure and standards associated with Image Cash Letters, formatting requirements for check returns, and other essential aspects of check formatting and standards.

Important Note: This content is part of the 2025 National Check Professional (NCP) Exam Prep Series and may therefore include references to other webinars in the series, as well as study resources provided by ECCHO for those enrolled in the NCP Exam.
