Event Description

Series Description: Fraud, scams, and financial crimes continue to remain an ever-evolving battle as, despite the motive often staying the same, the tactics continue changing over time. During this series, you will gain insights about the types of scams faced by financial institutions and recommendations to help mitigate against the risk of becoming victim to these frauds.

This series is co-sponsored by UMACHA and the Financial & Retailers Protection Association (FRPA).

Session Description: Check fraud is reportedly 2-4 times higher than pre-pandemic levels, with certain institutions seeing a 10x spike when they are targeted. Financial institutions are investing in new technologies to detect check fraud and working with law enforcement to catch the criminals. The United States Postal Service is deploying new electronic locks on mailboxes to curb stolen mail. The U.S. government is pushing for higher penalties for financial crimes related to mail theft. So, have we as an industry caught up to the fraudsters?
